Zuluk

 

A small village in the easternmost corner of Sikkim named after the battlefield, situated at an elevation of 9400 ft above sea level. Zuluk or jeluk or Dzuluk is the closest international border with Bhutan and China, it is a place that is enriched with enchanting scenic beauty, biodiversity, birding and historical grandeur.

HISTORY

Historically zuluk can be considered as the transit point to old silk routes (locally call Kalo-Bhari) from Lhasa to India via Jelepla pass and travel across Kupuk, Gnathang, Lungtung, Zuluk, Lingtam, Rongli, Pedong and finally to West Bengal, Today you can evidence the silk routes, still nearby zuluk and surrounding place. Today Indian army usually acclimatise before they proceed to Nathula and higher post.

 

RELIGION AND LIFESTYLE

Zuluk has a very small household of about 65 and around 305 individuals, most of which are Hindu and Buddhist. Language such as Nepali, Buddist along Hindi is spoken. The people are very hardworking and most of them are depending on BRO(Border Road Organization) and some at tourism, due to their hard work and kindness their hospitality makes the tourist feel at home.

Zuluk is coordinating as 27.2 ‘ N and 88.77 ‘ E at an elevation of 9400 ft, around a distance of 150 km from Siliguri/NJP( 6 – 7 hours) and around 103 km(4.5-5 hours) from Gangtok.
